# GPID

### What is GPID?

**GPID (Global Placement ID)** is a unique ad placement ID defined by the developer. It is **not a Placement ID generated in an advertising platform's dashboard**.

GPID was introduced by **The Trade Desk (TTD)**, one of the largest demand-side platforms (DSPs) in the market, with the goal of improving **traffic transparency** and making it easier for advertisers to identify and purchase inventory.

The most direct benefits of supporting GPID for developers are:

* **Access to TTD demand and budgets**, helping improve ad monetization efficiency.
* **Reduce the risk of revenue loss caused by changes in market policies.** An increasing number of advertisers are requiring GPID to be passed in the bid request. Supporting GPID early can help developers minimize the negative impact of potential policy changes on ad revenue.

### How to Create a GPID

For the official GPID specification, please refer to the [IAB OpenRTB GPID documentation on GitHub](https://github.com/InteractiveAdvertisingBureau/openrtb/blob/main/extensions/community_extensions/gpid.md).

Developers can also create GPIDs using the following formats.

GPID commonly uses two formats:

**Format 1: `publisher-placement-id/publisher-placement-name`**

Example:

`12345/homepage-rewarded-video`

* **12345**: The ad placement ID defined by the developer.
* **homepage-rewarded-video**: The ad placement name defined by the developer.

**Format 2: `bundle/ad_format/placement`**

Example:

`com.bundle.id/rewarded/homepage`

* **com.bundle.id**: The developer's app bundle/package ID.
* **rewarded**: The ad format or placement type.
* **homepage**: The placement context or scenario defined by the developer.

### GPID Format Requirements

The GPID format is **not limited to the two examples above**. Developers can define their own format as long as the GPID:

* Uniquely identifies an ad placement on the developer's side.
* Is consistent and stable for the same placement.
* Is **not composed entirely of numeric characters**.
